The Lenovo Smart Assistant is essentially the same product as that of the Amazon Echo. This is also a smart speaker who will listen to your commands and take necessary actions accordingly. It is also very similar in size and shape to Amazon Echo. However, it will be available in different color options. In terms of features, it has an eight 360-degree, far-field microphones with noise suppression/acoustic echo cancellation. And as a matter of fact, it uses Amazon Alexa’s voice to power the voice commands and searches. Well, now you might be confused as to how is this new Lenovo’s voice assistant any different than the Amazon’s Echo.

First of all, the Lenovo’s Smart assistant has priced aggressively at $129 which is comparatively less than the Amazon Echo’s $180 price tag. And although the Lenovo’s smart assistant uses Alexa’s voice to power the searches, etc. it will apparently work across Lenovo’s ecosystem of products too. Hence depending on what exactly you are looking for here, buying either of these will be a great option.

So as long as your hardware sit snug to the door, you can just remove the standard thumb turn and add on a plate depending on which lock you have installed. There are a couple of different options included with the August lock itself. You screw in the back plate into the existing key plate, and then you attach the August lock upfront. So anyone with basic mechanical knowledge will be fine with this installation. Using it with your phone is also very easy. All you have to do is download the August app and turn on the Bluetooth. You should be able to find it as long as you install the batteries inside the lock. The basic function of the lock is that it not only works as a standard lock, but you can also use your phone to open or close it. You hit the button here and over Bluetooth it will do everything. The Bluetooth connection is also pretty responsive. It works pretty fast, and it is pretty good instead of taking your key out of the pocket and do it. You can also assign access to different people who have the app. There is data tracking in the app so you can see how comes and goes inside the house with the help of that. And since it is only Bluetooth, it doesn’t talks to your internet at large, and hence you can’t really control it remotely.

The August Smart Lock work with a couple of hubs that will eventually give it that capability. It will also have home kit support with the Apple iOS. So once that happens you can just talk to Siri and get your door opened for you. So overall, August is pretty much one of my favorite. It works really well, its easy to install and because you add to an existing lock, nobody can tell what is on the inside as long as they are outside. So its discreet looks great and it is also very easy to use. It will cost $250 though, so you are really going to have to buy into the smart home ecosystem to get this. So this is one of the options if you want a reliable product i this category.

Just go to the app and follow the instruction to set it up for the first time. Do make a note that this doesn’t have the ability to hear the hot word and function and instead of that, you need to tap the button and say your command. Well, that is pretty much understood and since the name Amazon Tap. Once you tap and ask it, it works pretty much just like the Echo or Dot since the resources used are just the same. You can also connect the tap to your home connected network to use devices like the thermostat, lights, etc. You can also make this work with the Samsung Smart things.

Even the music/audio quality is also good. Don’t expect it to match some of the best ones out there but it is not all that bad either. So overall, the Amazon Tap is a decent portable speaker, and it sounds good enough for the price point. It also has the Alexa functionality which makes it worth the price which you are paying for it. The voice prompts are the highlight here and make it stands out than the other regular speakers.

Amazon has made it clear that this is their foray into AI and they are trying to minimize the latency as well. And over the past few years, they have managed to pair the Alexa service to a ton of different services, so that works well. As of now, it works well with Spotify, Pandora and many others as well. And not to forget the smart home services like Phillips Hue, Nest cam, and thermostat, etc. The Dot doesn’t have the big beefy speakers. This also costs less as it is only $90 as compared to $180 for the Amazon Echo. Yes, there is a speaker in there, but it is not all that big. Some of the ideal situations would be to use it next to the bed to use it as an alarm clock, or maybe ask it to turn off lights, etc.

Overall maybe i would say that it is little too expensive if you don’t have the smart things and all. So if you are just planning to connect it via Bluetooth or via the audio jack to play the music, then it is a lot. Maybe if you have kids, then they might love talking to Alexa but other than that there is not a lot if you are not into the home automation thing.

The main issues come with the software. The drop has a bad software as well, but even the Withings is not all that great either. The 1080p 30 FPS footage looks outstanding, however, over the software the video quality looked bad. This could be only due to the software or server issues since the internet connection here is quite fast. But the infrared sensors works surprisingly great and the quality, when there is no light, is a lot better. There is something called as events which will record the footage when there is any motion around, and you will be able to see it for two days. The Withings home also manages the notifications well. There are no unnecessary notifications like you would see with the drop cam.

There is also a baby monitor mode, Yes, this would be an expensive baby monitor if you are buying this for that, but it works. So overall, the Withings camera is really really nice. It is definitely better than the drop cam regarding hardware and in software is also almost as good. If you need a home security camera, then as of now, this is the one you should get. That said, i do believe that both the drop cam and the Withings home lacks a lot in the software side of things. So maybe if that is an issue for you, then hold of till things get better as the company will definitely address them.

You will need to insert the 4 AA batteries that are provided with the kit. And then just plug in the two cords that come in the box. And once you are all done, you are ready to connect it to your smartphone and give your home some brains. You will do this by connecting the things that came with your kit in the box. In this case, all you have to do is, pull out of the box and plug it in. When the smart hub detects all of your devices, you are free to keep them anywhere in the house and make them trigger certain things accordingly. Once you have placed all of them in the places, give them the names accordingly and get started.

And finally when you are at home, just select disable. All these options can be selected accordingly to help you create a safe and secure environment. There are a lot of options like using alarms, alert and what not. So overall, for the price at which it is being offered, you are getting pretty much everything that you would expect.
