We have often hear about smart (or say internet enabled) TVs being the future of the home entertainment. While there are not Android TV dongles available in the Indian market, well at least not branded ones, although if you do recall that Google has officially launched their Chromecast dongle, which is not an Android TV but it basically makes your average HD TV smarter. Though, many might agree that it lacks in many aspects.
To fulfil that needs, Bangalore-based Mango Man Consumer Electronics launched its new product, Teewe. It is a media streaming dongle which extends the connected home entertainment experience for the next generation and it is available at a price tag of INR 1,999, which is thousand bucks less than the Google Chromecast.
Specifications: The Device is a complete CPU with a Dual Core ARM Cortex A9 Processor, 1.5+ GHz and 1GB of DDR 3 RAM. Works with any TV with an HDMI Port and needs a Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connection to stream.
How to Set it Up
Setting it up is pretty easy, as the Teewe HDMI dongle by plugging it into our television set was simple and easy. We then downloaded the Teewe pp on multiple devices, so that we could check it out thoroughly . You will need to make sure that your smartphone or tablet is on the same network, If that is set, then it gets connected in a jiffy. Just select the media on the app and press play. That is it.
Our Test Run
The app can be used to control the playback even if Teewe is pulling content from a computer. We found this to be very cool and useful. It has a slick User Interface and good UX as well. We were able to play videos through YouTube and play content such as videos and photos that were stored on our own devices .
We were able to schedule videos into a queue by selecting different videos from multiple devices. You also have the option of jumping the queue and playing your desired video immediately as well.
Content stored on our laptops could also be played through the Teewe app, as they have windows as well as Mac app too. With an advantage of presence in various platform it has a good take over the Google Chromecast. We were also able to fast forward through the video, and control the volume through our smartphone. The search bar within the app helped us type, find and access content without the need to actually scroll and search for it.
All in all, the entire experience of Teewe was seamless and we really enjoyed the practical features that the device offered.
