Yoga is a great way to stay healthy and fit. But, most of the time yoga mats are not such a good idea. Yoga mats can be expensive, difficult to clean, and uncomfortable during hot yoga classes or in humid climates. Luckily for you, we have found some really good yoga mats that will make your life so much easier! Here are our top five best yoga mat picks:

What is Yoga?

Yoga is an ancient spiritual discipline whose goal is liberation from suffering (dukkha). The word “yoga” comes from Sanskrit yuj which means “to join”. It consists of physical postures called asanas done with regulated breathing through special techniques like pranayama while using different meditation practices.

What are the different types of yoga mats and their benefits?

There are many types of yoga mats available in the market today, but not all are made equal. Some yoga mats are made specifically for hot yoga or Vinyasa while others may be better suited to a Bikram Yoga class. It is best to have your mat tailored according to the type of practice you will do with it so that it provides comfort, stability and support when needed most.

Hot yoga usually involves temperature in the range of 28°C – 40°C (82F – 104F) which makes this style more challenging than other types of yoga because standing on a hard surface like wood can cause discomfort and instability during poses where we’re bending our knees or hips over head such as downward dog.

You need a thickly padded sticky mat for long hours at high temperatures with minimal grip or slipping from beneath you. For regular yoga at home or in a studio the best mat is one that provides cushioning and grip to avoid injury, slipping or sliding while being supportive. The materials used for these mats are usually polyurethane foam which can be found as open-cell (soft) or closed cell (firmer).

For Bikram Yoga where poses last longer than usual you’ll need something with extra padding such as an organic cotton mat. Some yoga practitioners prefer natural elements like eco yoga mats made of cork from Portugal instead of synthetic rubber so those may suit your needs if they’re available locally. You should also consider having two different types of yoga mats – one for hot practices and another type for regular ones at home.

How to take care of your new mat properly?

The yoga mats can be washed with anything from soap to dishwashing liquid, but be sure to rinse it well. For the eco friendly yoga mats, mix one cup of white vinegar with two cups of cold water and soak for a few minutes before rinsing. The best way to dry your yoga mat is by leaving it in direct sunlight, otherwise you can place it on the top rack inside the dryer or just hang over a clothesline outside.

The yoga mats made of polyurethane foam or rubber can be rolled up and stored in the closet or under a bed, while those made from natural materials need to be folded.

How to choose a mat for your needs?

Check your budget! There is a wide variety of price ranges, so find one that suits your needs. Make sure it’s comfortable and not too heavy to carry around. Yoga mats should be made from natural rubber or synthetic materials like polyurethane foam (i.e., memory foam) to provide adequate traction on hard surfaces – this will prevent slipping in sweaty conditions and protect against bacteria buildup under the feet by absorbing moisture more efficiently than any other material

Also, consider how often you do yoga and what type of climate there is; some people prefer lighter weight mats with less cushioning due to hot climates while others might want a heavier mat with extra padding because they are.
